Worsted weight such as Caron Simply Soft (approx. 120 yds)
Size J- 5.50mm crochet hook (or size needed to obtain gauge)
Toddler (fits 18-20” head circumference)
14 dc x 8 rows= 4”
ch(s) – chain(s), blo- back loop only, sc – single crochet, dc – double crochet, st(s) – stitch(es), fpdc- front post double crochet, sk- skip, rep- repeat
- Hat is worked in a continual round so you will not be joining each round. Place a stitch marker in the first st of each round so you will know where each round begins.
Round 1: Sc in blo of 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across (photo A, below), join with a sl st in 1st sc. <66sts>
Round 2: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), dc in same st, dc in the next st, fpdc in the next st. *dc in the next 2sts, fpdc in the next*, rep from *-* around. DO NOT JOIN <66 sts>
Rounds 3-5: *Dc in the next 2 sts, fpdc in the next st*, rep from *-* around. <66 sts>
Round 6: *Dc in next st, ch 1, dc in next st, sk next st*, rep from *-* around. <44 dc, 22 ch>
Rounds 7-20: *Dc, ch 1, dc* in each ch 1 space around. <44 dc, 22 ch>
Join with a sl st in the next st and fasten off, leaving a 12” tail.
Weave tail through every other ch around and pull tightly to close (photos B and C, below). Make a knot to secure and weave in ends.
